Luis Rubiales won’t resign because of Jenni Hermoso’s kiss

Spain soccer boss Luis Rubiales refused to step down on Friday after a week of slamming criticism for his unsolicited kiss on player Jenni Hermoso’s lips following Spain’s triumph at the Women’s World Cup.

“I will not resign, I will not resign, I will not resign,” Rubiales cried at an emergency meeting of the Football Association.

“A consensual ‘kiss’ enough to get me out of here? I will fight to the end,” he added.

Rubiales, 46, was set to resign as president of the Spanish Football Federation (RFEF) after government ministers and sporting personalities called for his resignation and disciplinary proceedings were launched against him by world football’s governing body FIFA.

He said the pressure he received from politicians and clubs this week was an attempt to “murder me in public” and said he will defend himself by “cracking down on these people”.

The RFEF boss claimed his kiss on Hermoso’s lips was consensual and in the same vein as his child’s kiss.

“It was an impromptu kiss, mutual, euphoric and consensual,” Rubiales said.

The President apologized for grabbing his crotch next to Spain’s Queen Letizia during celebrations of their 1-0 win over England in the final.

“I would like to apologize for the actions that happened in a moment of euphoria. I grabbed that part of my body while looking at Jorge Vilda (the coach),” Rubiales said.

“I was so emotional that I lost control and took my hands there.”
