CORAL GABLES, FL. (WSVN) – A Miami-Dade County Public Schools board member received a top honor this weekend.

Dr. Steve Gallon III was inducted into the Boys & Girls Club of Miami-Dade Alumni Hall of Fame at a gala Saturday night in Coral Gables.

Gallon was a member of the organization in the late 1970s. Looking back, he said he learned the basics of discipline, perseverance and teamwork.

“It really laid the foundation for our lifelong lessons about resilience and perseverance and it really served as the foundation for my successes today,” he said.

7News anchor and Bite with Belkys host Belkys Nerey served as emcee at the gala.

Proceeds fund the clubs’ programs and services that help children reach their full potential.
