Maci Bookout snaps when he finds out about Ryan Edwards’ OD – and has to tell his son!

Maci bookout opens approximately Ryan Edwards‘ Overdose.

On Wednesday’s episode of Teenage mother, the 32-year-old broke down after learning of her ex’s horrific overdose in April, which sent him to the hospital before he was sent back to prison on a controlled substance and drunk driving charge. He was previously in court-ordered rehab, which Maci revealed in the episode where he decided to leave early. She told her husband Taylor McKinney:

“He just called me and told me he was coming home early. I do not agree with this decision. I just don’t think it’s a good idea considering how long he’s been abusing drugs.”

She explained the whole situation has been “really hard” for her and Ryan’s 15-year-old son Bentley, as the two had apparently only recently mended their damaged relationship. And now his father was here, almost killing himself with drugs.

Four days after she received that call from Ryan, he was found lifeless in his truck containing what police claimed was a “crystal-like substance” and a “blue powder.” According to Maci, the 35-year-old was administered two doses of Narcan at the scene. With tears in her eyes, she explained in the confessional:

“When I found out that Ryan had overdosed, that was really the first time I was really scared. Having to have that conversation with Bentley and seeing that… I know how it made me feel, but Ryan is not my father.”

She shared that her son took the news particularly hard, which was “so hard” to see:

“It’s all so difficult. Bentley feels like a million times through all of this and he’s a kid. I think the most important thing is to make sure Bentley is a priority. But as a mother you can’t just get a band-aid, it’s so hard.”

As news of Ryan’s attack and arrest spread, the MTV star explained that it had become “really hard to stay one step ahead.” She told friends that she didn’t like Ryan’s decision to leave rehab in the first place, citing his tumultuous divorce from his ex Mackenzie Edwardsafter sharing that he actually showed up at one of Bentley’s baseball games the night before his OD:

“I didn’t necessarily agree with it. When he gets home, he goes to Bentley’s baseball game alone. He and Taylor actually spoke. It was good and on Friday he overdosed. I think he thought he could come home, be with his kids and stay with his parents. I think he thinks he’s invincible in the face of healthy people, that’s what it is.”

It’s so wild how quickly things can go downhill…

And Maci had to tell her son everything:

“Bentley knows everything. Before he went to rehab, he was very worried, very worried. He kept saying, ‘I don’t want him to do this alone.'”

However, after the OD, she admitted that her son went from disappointment to anger:

“Now [Bentley’s] just angry. The way things have been going over the last four to five months and how well things have been going, even in the midst of all the crap with his soon-to-be-ex-wife, I think Bentley is angry because he’s like what I used to think : ‘Don’t you realize how much potential you have?’”

How devastating for the poor child.

Ultimately Maci and Ryan’s mother Jen both expressed interest in participating Al Anon, which provides support for friends and relatives of alcoholics. While speaking to Maci, Jen explained that Ryan didn’t even know what had happened until he woke up in the hospital when he texted her:

“Mom, I’m so sorry, I was upset, I should have stayed in rehab.”

What a grueling situation for this poor family. It’s good that they have each other. We hope you can all find some peace of mind with the help of professionals. Watch more from the episode (below):
