Major retailer opens new location where anchor store once stood – see if your town gets a revival
A POPULAR retailer has announced plans to open a massive new store on a site that has sat vacant for years.
According to the Erie Times News, Dick’s Sporting Goods will open a new store at Millcreek Mall in Erie County, Pennsylvania.

The space has been empty since department store chain Bon-Ton closed its anchor market in 2018.
Dick’s already has 52,000 square feet of space outside of the mall’s main building at 2088 Interchange Road.
The US Sun has reached out to the brand for comment, confirming the opening of the new store.
Bon-Ton announced five years ago that it would close its Millcreek Mall store.
It was one of 200 of the retailer’s branches to close nationwide in the wake of a bankruptcy.
DICK’S SPORTS CLOSURES
Dick’s Sporting Goods’ expansion into Millcreek Mall follows the closure of two stores late last year.
His Midwest City, Oklahoma store closed on December 31, 2022.
Residents were reportedly upset that the city didn’t do more to keep the retailer in the 50,000-square-foot building Midwest city beacon.
A second Dick’s location has since closed – this one in Columbia, South Carolina.
A reason for the closure was not announced.
