Local councilor Conor Sheahan said yesterday the death had caused shock in the local community.
“First of all, as a councilor who lives in the community, I can say that what happened here is deeply shocking and sad,” he said.
“Sarsfield Avenue would be home to an older, very sedentary community and the house where this happened is on a cul-de-sac. So you should only go up there if you have business there.
“I truly hope gardaí can complete their investigation quickly and that justice is served.”

One wrote: “I truly and truly cannot believe what I am hearing today. Poor old Ger. Heartbreaking news!
