Marina Moscone RTW Spring 2024 – WWD

“I don’t know if you saw it on the news, but a few months ago there were water nymph statues from England that were over 200 years old – kids took crayons and ruined them, but I thought it was so beautiful,” Marina said Moscone during a showroom appointment. The idea of ”coloring outside the lines” inspired the designer this season with images of the stone statues, now covered in bright blue doodles, appearing on her mood board alongside Cy Twombly’s scribbled paper works and Liam Lee’s vibrant mohair chair sculptures .

Moscone often cites her love of art as inspiration for her collections, but for spring she delved deeper into her artisanal spirit. The result was a collection full of beautiful contrasts of artistic, fashion-forward designs and a selection of her signature minimalist, masculine and feminine designs.

For example, Moscone’s hand-drawn scribble-dot print, featured on her signature silk twill twist dress, shimmered through laser-cut sheaths and morphed into high-tension thread embroidery on briefs. The fluid silhouettes extended to pajama-inspired luxe loungewear (splendid in painter green with hand-drawn micro floral motifs) as well as a versatile tabard wrap dress that could be worn five ways.

Moscone’s bias-cut ruffle details (as seen on the hem of a crop top or the spaghetti sleeves of a slip dress) and straight satin scoop neckline embellished with resin drops (each hand-formed) provided a strong, playful balance to her sharp style, well-known cuts inspired by men’s fashion, such as the new boyfriend blazer of the season with cape sleeves or the slim-fitting basque blazer with satin lapels.
