Mark Zuckerberg’s meta is threatening to take down key Facebook features people use every day

META, Facebook’s parent company, is threatening to remove a key feature from the app.
The social media giant is reportedly reacting to a new law that could see it lose money if it keeps the popular feature.
According to that BBCsaid a meta spokesperson, “If Congress passes a rash journalism bill as part of national security legislation, we will be forced to consider removing news from our platform altogether.”
The proposed legislation is called the Journalism Competition and Preservation Act (JCPA) and was introduced to Congress by Democratic Senator Amy Klobuchar of Minnesota.
The law could give news outlets more power to negotiate fees and a higher share of ad revenue with Facebook.
Meta can make money from news articles published on its platforms.

Some outlets argue they should get their fair share.
However, Meta argues that its app drives traffic to news outlets and therefore doesn’t have to pay news outlets hefty fees for content.
In the US only, Meta is threatening to remove news content from Facebook.
Last year, news content on Facebook was briefly suspended in Australia after a similar law was passed there.
Meta says sharing news on Facebook doesn’t generate as much revenue.
No decision has been made yet, allowing US users to continue viewing news content.
