Markets record the fourth day of the rally on the purchase of HDFC Bank

Equity benchmark indices ended in positive territory on Wednesday on buying in HDFC Bank and a broadly firm trend in Asian markets.

End of the day buying helped the BSE Sensex gain 100.26 points, or 0.15 percent, to close at 65,880.52. For the day, it was down 292.23 points, or 0.44 percent, to 65,488.03.

The Nifty rose 36.15 points, or 0.18 percent, to close at 19,611.05.

Among Sensex stocks, the biggest gainers included Bharti Airtel, HDFC Bank, Titan, ITC, UltraTech Cement, Sun Pharma, Bajaj Finserv, Bajaj Finance, Hindustan Unilever and Kotak Mahindra Bank.

Tata Steel, Axis Bank, IndusInd Bank, NTPC and ICICI Bank were the main laggards.

In Asian markets, Tokyo, Shanghai and Hong Kong ended in the green while Seoul was lower.

European equity markets traded lower. US markets ended Tuesday in negative territory.

Global oil benchmark Brent fell 0.70 percent to $89.41 a barrel.

Overseas institutional investors (FIIs) sold shares valued at Rs. 1,725.11 crore on Tuesday, according to stock market data.

The BSE benchmark was up 152.12 points, or 0.23 percent, on Tuesday to close at 65,780.26. The Nifty rose 46.10 points, or 0.24 percent, to close at 19,574.90.
