Nebula in the Guardians of the Galaxy Holiday Special

In early The Guardians of the Galaxy Christmas SpecialKraglin reflects on the fact that it’s Christmas time now, and Nebula then mentions that not only do the Wardens possess knowhere, but specifically says: “Since I bought Knowhere from The Collector…” Since the Guardians did not possess Knowhere during this time Avengers: Infinity Warthen this can only be possible if the collector has survived and continues to live The Guardians of the Galaxy Christmas Special timeline. This fits with Benicio del Toro’s belief that the collector survived Infinite Waras he said in 2018: “I think he’s alive. Yes… I think, you know, I think he’s alive. You’re talking to him!”

How the Collector is still alive after Infinity War

The Collector in Avengers Infinity War

This confirmed that the Collector lived by it Avengers: Infinity War, the big questions are how and why. Though Thanos always claimed he wanted to bring balance to the universe, he also showed recklessness in acquiring the Infinity Stones, such as destroying Xandar and sacrificing his daughter Gamora. It seems unlikely that he would have decided to spare the Collector entirely for no reason, given that even in illusion he shows contempt for him, but Tivan was a bargainer and a great negotiator. That said, it’s entirely possible he was able to guarantee his survival in exchange for giving Thanos the Reality Stone.

Add to that the fact that the Collector is incredibly powerful. Though not explored much in the MCU, he is an elder of the universe and has lived an incredibly long life, capable of taking far more damage than a human. This continues in the comics, where it is confirmed that the Collector cannot die (he can technically be killed, but it requires destroying him on a molecular level). That could also explain how he survived Infinite War; said immortality came from Lady Death seen as a statue in Eternity in Thor: Love & Thunder and therefore exists in some form in the MCU. It’s unconfirmed if the Collector is immortal in the MCU, but either way he’s among the characters that survived Avengers: Infinity War.
