Maura Higgins could return to where it all began for her as Love Island stars from previous series get a second chance at romance in the first All Stars appearance, ITV has confirmed.
There have long been rumors that familiar faces from the series will be returning to the villa in South Africa for another chance at finding the one.
Love Island, currently hosted by Maya Jama, was a ratings giant for ITV2 but has seen a dip in popularity lately.
The start of the latest summer series on Mallorca was followed by an average of 1.3 million viewers in the overnight ratings – more than a million fewer than the last summer start.
The series was won by Sammy Root and Jess Harding.
Love Island: All Stars will make its theatrical debut in the new year, with former contestants uniting as bomb blasts test their relationships.
Mike Spencer, creative director at production company Lifted Entertainment, said: “There have been rumors for a while but we’re delighted to finally be able to confirm that we are producing Love Island: All Stars for ITV2 and ITVX early next year.”
“It’s a must-watch series as it sees some of your favorite islanders from across the years return to the stunning South African villa to reconnect as their search for love continues. I can barely wait for it.”
Paul Mortimer, Director of Reality Commissioning and Acquisitions at ITV2, said: “After 10 ratings-winning seasons of Love Island on ITV2, we’re delighted to celebrate a decade of TV’s number one dating show with the first season ever of the series Love Island: All Stars.
“I know audiences at our luxurious South African villa will be welcoming back some of Britain’s most famous islanders as they embark on their quest for love once more in a brand new version of our global hit.”
“Love Island” has been produced all over the world, including hit series in the US and Australia.
Love Island: All Stars is broadcast on ITV2 and ITVX.
