Millions have been warned to look for hidden ‘vampire’ iPhone and Android bills you may be paying

It’s easy to overlook the fact that the money is being withdrawn quietly – so you should check your phone right away.

We’ve put together a simple guide to checking (and canceling) app subscriptions on iPhone and Android devices.

Sometimes apps try to trick you into signing up for subscriptions.

Other times, you sign up for something and then forget to cancel.

Maybe you want to claim a free trial but cancel before the first payment is due.

Whatever the reason, it is possible to cancel these subscriptions and save your hard-earned cash.

Note, however, that you can only cancel subscriptions for which you have signed up through the official app store mechanisms – and not if you have signed up elsewhere, such as. B. on the Netflix website.

How to Check and Cancel iPhone Subscriptions

Apple Subscriptions are actually in your settings app – not in the app store itself.

You must first tap your name at the top of the settings menu.

Then you’ll see a subscriptions tab at the very top – tap on it.

In it you will find all your subscriptions that have been activated via the App Store.

It also shows the billing dates when you will be charged.

If you tap on an individual subscription, you can see the cost of the subscription.

And you can also change whether you’re charged weekly, monthly, yearly, etc. – depending on the options offered.

There’s also a big red Cancel Subscription button at the bottom if you’d like to cancel your plan entirely.

In general, you’ll retain access to the service until the current billing cycle expires, but it’s worth checking first before canceling.

How to cancel a Google Play subscription

First, note that uninstalling an app will not cancel your subscription.

Go to the Google Play Store and make sure you are logged into the correct account.

Then tap Menu > Subscriptions and select the payment plan you want to cancel.

Tap Unsubscribe and then follow the instructions.

You can continue to use your subscription for the time you have already paid for – but the subscription will no longer be renewed.

How to pause a subscription on Google Play

Alternatively, you can pause a subscription – if an app allows it.

This means your plan will pause at the end of your current billing cycle.

Open the Google Play Store on your phone or tablet and make sure you’re signed in with the correct account.

Tap Menu > Subscriptions and select the subscription you want to pause.

Then tap Manage > Pause Payments and select the time period you want.

Finally, tap Confirm to pause the payments.
