Millions of iPhone and Android users warned about ‘Russian hack of 50 million passwords’ – are you at risk?

RUSSIAN cyber crooks managed to steal more than 50 million passwords this year alone, experts claim.
34 Russian-speaking groups spreading “information-stealing malware” have been uncovered.
According to cyber firm Group-IB, they managed to do it via chat app Telegram.
The criminals mainly looted game accounts for platforms such as Steam and Roblox.
But they also managed to obtain sensitive login credentials for Amazon and Paypal.
Their main target appeared to be people in the US, Brazil, India, Germany and Indonesia.
Around 890,000 devices were infected with off-the-shelf malware designed to steal information.
This allows hackers to collect details stored in the browser.
Group-IB believes stealers are “one of the biggest threats to watch over the coming year”
“After a successful attack, the scammers either use the stolen data to make money themselves or they sell the stolen information to the cybercriminal underground,” the company said.
The Digital Risk Protection team added: “The influx of large numbers of personnel into the popular Classiscam scam – which Group-IB’s Unified Risk Platform identified comprised over a thousand criminal groups and hundreds of thousands of fake websites at its peak – has led to this caused criminals to compete for resources and look for new ways of making money.
“The popularity of schemes involving thieves can be explained by the low barrier to entry.

“Beginners do not need advanced technical knowledge, since the process is fully automated and the only task of the worker is to create a file with a stealer in the Telegram bot and direct traffic to it.
“However, for victims whose computers are infected by a stealer, the consequences can be catastrophic.”
