Mills weaves durability into fabrics for Spring Summer 2024 – Sourcing Journal

Originally a work pant for miners, farmers and ranchers, denim is inherently durable. However, the increasing tendency of consumers to buy fewer, better quality items has underscored the importance of weaving durability into everyday lifestyle items like jeans.

It’s a message that’s even reflected in Levi’s popular Buy Better, Wear Longer campaign, which promotes timeless designs with durability.

Factories are developing new sustainable methods to maintain fabric strength. The Spring/Summer 2024 In Season Lookbook, made possible with the support of Cotton Incorporated, highlights the different ways denim manufacturers are approaching durability.

“The most sustainable fabric is the one that lasts the longest,” said Isko. The Turkish mill’s patented yarn spinning technology means their fabrics are stronger and more durable than traditional open-end constructions, ensuring denim retains its appearance and lasts longer too.

Other mills improve fabric strength with high-performance fibers.

Advance Denim has developed high tenacity denim to meet the needs of workwear and high performance protection. The factory uses military-grade Cordura fibers, which provide extra abrasion resistance without sacrificing comfort, on both the warp and weft to give it more strength.

Lycra Tough Max and Cordura are the key ingredients behind Artistic Milliners’ durable Magnum fabric. The Pakistani factory said the fabric has a durable composition and weave.

Prosperity Textile’s Blue Force collection is made from Ultra High Molecular Weight Polyethylene (UHMWPEF) fibers to provide higher tear/tensile strength and abrasion resistance.

Twin Dragon said its most durable fabrics contain Sorbtek yarn – a strong, sturdy fiber that helps wick moisture to the surface to regulate temperature. The mill said Sorbtek’s strength and durability make it excellent for workwear and indoor/outdoor activities. “But the durability doesn’t sacrifice comfort, and these items still have a soft feel and drape,” Twin Dragon said.

Polyester is used by Global Denim to reinforce the durable Oak, Lauren Gravity and Ivy fabrics. The Mexican factory is also expanding its fabric category in Lycra T400, which not only resists fiber damage and increases durability, but also offers lasting comfort, fit and shape, and moisture-wicking benefits.

Orta said his Keeper Culture fabrics are blended for longevity.

Cone Denim’s most durable fabric, Manifest is a testament to how far recycled textiles have come. Although recycled fibers typically detract from garment strength, Cone blends 50 percent post-industrial cotton waste with post-consumer polyester to improve the fabric’s durability. The fabric is durable, making it ideal for workwear and outerwear.

Fabrics with different performance characteristics make up the Daredevil collection from Crescent Bahan Limited. The Pakistani factory said the range offers functional attributes that are more durable than traditional fabrics.

Softness is key to the durable preshrunk fabrics in XDD Textile’s Vintage Friendly Collection. They aim to prevent shrinkage after washing and drying while maintaining a soft handfeel. You can achieve a vintage look and a marble effect.

No matter how durable a fabric is, it still has to look good.

ADM’s Skateboarder line is made with Lycra Tough Max technology, making it the most durable and functional fabric in the Pakistani factory’s Spring/Summer 2024 collection. The fabrics in the series are well suited for workwear, as they meet consumer needs for robust jeans without sacrificing comfort.

Artistic Fabric Mills said A4-0502008 and AS-45 might be its toughest fabrics, but their properties aren’t limited to durability. They have an “authentic, heavy, stiff look with comfortable stretch and beautiful marbling,” according to the company.

Maritaş Denim Forever concept includes durable fabrics for different looks including designs with flat appearance, strong visual effects and slow fading. The fabrics do not lose their shape and luminosity after washing.
