National City police pursuit ends in accident; A man was killed in South Bay

NATIONAL CITY, Calif. — A brief car chase ended in an accident Friday that killed one person, the National City Police Department said.

Authorities said they were chasing a driver for a speed violation around midnight when the person fled in a car identified as a Toyota on Block 2000 of National City Boulevard.

The driver, described as a man in his 20s or 30s, lost control of his vehicle and was thrown out after a brief chase, the NCPD said. The man was pronounced dead at the scene. His identity has not been released.

All of National City Boulevard from 30th to 26th Streets is closed for an investigation, according to the NCPD. Authorities are advising motorists to avoid the area and expect the road to reopen sometime after 6am

No other injuries were reported in connection with this incident.
