Nuggets F. Michael Porter Jr., Spurs C. Zach Collins ejected after fight after dunk

After Michael Porter Jr. threw a dunk at Zach Collins, he actually grabbed Collins by the neck before the two were separated.

Michael Porter Jr. and Zach Collins were kicked out Friday night after the two got into a brief altercation in San Antonio.

Midway through the third quarter of the Spurs’ 128-120 win over the Denver Nuggets at the AT&T Center, Porter threw a huge dunk at Collins.

The dunk was clean, but Porter continued talking to Collins as the two began working their way down the court. That drove Collins crazy. He chased Porter down after Porter turned his back on him and pushed him, sparking a brief altercation near the center court.

Although it didn’t last long, Porter actually grabbed Collins completely by the neck before they were separated.

Both Collins and Porter were then knocked out of the game.

“He made a good play, he caught me on the edge,” Collins said of San Antonio Express-News’ Nick Talbot. “Then he just talked and I didn’t like that. So I just went after him.”

As for the choke, Collins said he felt it was happening in real time – and he was ready to react, but was knocked off before he could do so.

“I pushed it off. I was ready,” Collins said. “I pushed the choke off, I was ready.”

However, Nuggets star Jamal Murray saw things differently.

“I don’t know why he got so emotional,” Murray said of Collins. via Tom Orsborn of Express News. “He got dunked and started barking. I’ve never seen anything like it.”

Collins finished the tournament with 10 points and nine rebounds for the Spurs. Porter had seven points, a rebound and an assist.

San Antonio led 98-93 after the third quarter to secure the eight-point win – making it the Spurs’ third win in five games and a loss in two games. Keldon Johnson led with 23 points and eight rebounds, and Doug McDermott added 20 points from the bench.

Nikola Jokic had a triple-double for the Nuggets with 37 points, 11 rebounds and 11 assists. Murray added 24 points and seven assists. Denver lost a straight game for the first time since late January and only the third all season after losing to the Chicago Bulls on Wednesday.
