Following the sensational debut, the producers of Netflix’s “One Piece” announce the scripts for a possible season 2 have been completed and that the next season could be “ready to air” in a year as soon as production can begin.
“We have the scripts ready,” said Marty Adelstein, CEO of Tomorrow Studios, which is producing the live-action “One Piece” in collaboration with manga creator Eiichiro Oda and publisher Shueisha diversity Thursday.

Although production on a potential second season cannot begin until the SAG-AFTRA strike against the AMPTP is resolved, Becky Clements, president of Tomorrow Studios, says that the second season could start as early as next season as soon as they are allowed to get started again Year.
“Realistically, hopefully in a year if we act very quickly, and that is a possibility,” Clements said. “Sometime between a year and 18 months we could be ready to broadcast.”
One Piece is directed by Matt Owens and Steven Maeda and is set in a fantastical world where pirates and marines fight for control of the Blue Sea. The little boy Monkey D. While Netflix has already touted the success of the first season of One Piece Starting on his weekly top 10 list, where it landed at No. 1 among English-language TV series with 18.5 million views after its first four days of availability, there is still no news of a second season renewal. But Adelstein and Clements say all signs currently point to an upswing.
“They keep it close to the vest, as you know, until after takeoff,” Clements said. “But with Netflix’s backing of the title, we expected it to go number one and we sensed that their research and algorithms probably saw the possibility of that. But in our subsequent post-launch calls we were told we exceeded expectations, which is also fantastic.”
Netflix did not respond to a request for comment on the status of a second season renewal of “One Piece.”
The win is a big victory for Tomorrow Studios, which suffered a less successful launch of its live-action adaptation of “Cowboy Bebop” for Netflix, canceling the series less than a month after its 2021 premiere. Better fate for “One.” Piece”.
“I find [Netflix is] When you look at different situations, how many episodes do they do, do they break them down?” Adelstein said. “I think they’re trying to figure that out this week. I suspect we’ll be hearing from them in the next week or two. There seems to be a big push to continue this and develop a long-term strategy. So we’ll just wait for that.”
Adelstein says the next step in proving that “One Piece,” which “plays like a huge $250 million tentpole movie,” deserves a second season, is to maintain its initial high viewership, by attracting an audience that wasn’t familiar with the manga or anime based on before launch and wouldn’t have tuned in right away.
“I think what it needs to do, and what it has done, is expand,” Adelstein said. “We see a lot of families, and that’s really the key, is to bring in the non-fans and the people who aren’t aware of the IP because the show stands on its own and you get people to watch it.” People really love it.”
