Many Illinois residents are still waiting for up to $700 in one-time direct payments, but the state now has a way to track your payment.

The payments originally went out in September, but state officials warned it could take months to process all the checks for the six million residents waiting to receive them.

A total of 1.2 billion US dollars are sent to the six million inhabitants.

How to check where your discount is

Your discount may already be on its way to you, and you can check it online.

First off, your refund will be paid the same way you received your 2021 Illinois income tax refund.

So if you have decided to make a direct deposit, you should expect the money to fall into this bank account.

However, if you received a paper check in the mail instead, this is how your discounts will arrive.

For those who did not receive a refund, they should expect a paper refund check sent to the address on their tax return.

Due to paper shortages and postal delays, those who receive their checks in the mail will likely have to wait longer.

If you’re unsure of the status of your discount, you can use the Where’s My Discount? page. Illinois Department of Revenue tool website.

To use the tool you will need:

  • Your Name
  • Social Security Number or Tax Identification Number (ITIN)
  • Adjusted gross income as reported on your 2021 Illinois income tax return or property tax return form or Illinois PIN number.

If the tool doesn’t display your information, try your spouse’s name.

How to qualify for the discount

You had to meet certain criteria to be eligible for Illinois income tax refunds.

First, in 2021, you had to live in Illinois.

Second, your listed adjusted gross income on your Illinois 2021 tax return had to be less than $200,000. For joint applicants, this amount was $400,000.

The beneficiaries had to submit their tax returns by October 17 of this year.

how much you get

Not everyone will make the same amount from their Illinois rebates.

The amount depends entirely on your enrollment status and the number of dependents you claim in 2021.

Each claimant will receive $50 (or $100 if filed jointly) plus $100 per dependent, up to three dependents.

That means a couple with three children gets a $400 discount.

The property tax refund is worth $300, which means the maximum you could earn in total is $700.

Right to a Property Tax Refund

There were additional requirements to qualify for the $300 Illinois property tax reduction.

You also had to be an Illinois resident in 2021, and you had to pay state property taxes that year on your 2020 primary residence to claim the money.

Qualifying individuals were also required to earn less than $250,000 or $500,000 if married and filing a joint tax return.

Those who have not filed their state income tax returns could also qualify for the payments if they file a property tax return form by Oct. 17.

Other states offer discounts

Illinois has joined many other states in offering rebates to taxpayers to offset some of the negative effects of inflation.

Massachusetts residents will get up to 13 percent of their 2021 state income taxes back this month.

Specifically, residents receive an amount equal to 13 percent of what they paid for state income tax, which is also essentially 0.7 percent of their total taxable income.

No maximum discount is given as it is calculated in relation to a household’s income.

Those making around $40,000 a year will see just over $200 in their accounts, and those making $1 million or more will see up to $7,000 in rebates.

Meanwhile, other local governments have introduced universal basic income programs for low-income families.

Beneficiaries in Cook County, Illinois will receive $500 per month checks for two years as part of the program.

The first payment will be made on December 15th.

Meanwhile, hundreds of pregnant black women in California will rake in between $600 and $1,000 for 12 months in the New Year.

The Abundant Birth Project, which started in 2021, raised $1,000 a month for a year for 150 women in San Francisco.
