People are realizing a simple Sky TV mistake everyone makes right now

EVEN if you’ve had a Sky box for years, you might be making some simple recording errors.

It’s a really handy feature – but its inner workings aren’t always obvious.

There's so much content to record on Sky - but are you doing it right?

For example, if you click record on a Sky TV show, you’ll get a series link.

This means that every episode of this TV series is recorded.

Luckily, there’s a way to prevent this: maybe you just want to record a single show?

To do this, tap Record again.

This allows you to turn the show into a record-once setting.

But that’s not the only recording trick worth knowing.

You can also find all your scheduled recordings under Recordings > Scheduled.

This can give you a handy overview of what you’ve set up to record.

And if you want to save some space on your Sky box, go to Settings > Preferences and choose SD instead of HD for downloads.

HD is the standard and offers better picture quality, but if you’re going to be shooting a lot, SD lets you squeeze more into the box.

Finally, Sky also has a dedicated folder where you can save footage from the big virtual barrel.

By restoring recordings, you can watch them again as if they were never deleted.

Finding your deleted recordings is easy enough.

Just go to Recordings and then Manage.

Then look for Deleted and select Recover.

On Sky Q, you should be able to easily go straight from Camera Roll to Deleted.

You can also permanently delete your recordings in this section.

The Deleted Programs menu was added back in 2012, so you might have been missing it for years.

Here are some other Sky TV tricks you might have missed…

Skip!

There are several fast forward options.

For example, on a Sky Q Touch remote, you can swipe up then right to skip forward.

However, the best method is to simply use voice control.

For example, you could say “Skip three minutes.”

Just make sure you press the microphone button on your remote before you start speaking.

This is a great way to quickly skip a commercial break in recorded content, for example.

Go back!

One of the best tricks lets you quickly return to a channel you were previously watching.

It’s a common problem: you start looking at something else and then immediately regret it.

Or maybe you just had to tune into a station for a very short time.

Either way, your Sky Q remote has a simple shortcut to solve your problem.

Just swipe right on the touchpad remote control.

This will bring up a screen below where you can select your previous channel.

This means you can quickly switch between two channels with minimal effort.

Turn off your TV

A common complaint is that it’s impossible to turn off your TV with the Sky Q remote.

But that’s just not true – it just takes a bit of know-how.

It’s true that pressing the Sky Q remote button turns off your Sky box.

However, you can also turn off your TV with a simple tweak.

Instead of a quick press, press and hold the power button on the Sky Q remote for a few seconds.

This will turn off your Sky Q box and also put the TV on standby.

Skim the guide

If you’ve ever used the Sky TV guide, finding exactly what you want can sometimes feel like a pain.

Luckily, there are a few remote control tricks you can use to quickly jump around.

If you press the fast-forward button on a Sky Q remote, you can skip forward 24 hours in the guide.

That means you can see what’s going on tomorrow (and beyond) in seconds.

If you click rewind, you will also be transported back 24 hours.

If you want to dive deep into the guide and know what’s on, just hit the play button.

This could shave minutes off your daily browsing if you remember to use the shortcuts.

Hide in plain sight

And here’s another trick.

Your Sky TV remote has a secret button you probably didn’t know about.

It serves a very useful purpose: viewing your recorded TV shows and movies.

It saves you from digging through your box’s various menus to find the content you saved for later.

We’re talking about the Sky logo – yes, it’s a button!

Press it to bring up your recordings, which is anything you’ve chosen to download and save for later.

It’s a simple trick, but one that many people don’t know – even if they’ve had Sky Q for years.
