Melbourne Livewire Kysaiah Pickett has been offered a two-game ban for his gross bump against Western Bulldogs midfielder Bailey Smith.
Meanwhile, Sydney star Lance Franklin has been handed a week-long ban for a high smack on Gold Coast defender Sam Collins.
Pickett jumped in the air and made high contact with Smith after disposing of the ball. Former great Kane Cornes later described the incident as “one of the most dangerous things I’ve seen on a football field.”
The bump was ruled as negligent conduct, high impact and high contact and prompted a two-game suspension that will see him miss blockbusters against Brisbane and Sydney should he accept the ban.
Franklin’s strike on Collins was seen for a week as careless behaviour, medium impact and high touch on the touchline, meaning he will miss the Swans’ clash with former club Hawthorn.
Pickett’s ban in particular will be controversial, with Cornes describing the hit as a “three or four week incident” at AFL Media The round so far.
