PM Modi inaugurates Shivamogga Airport and lays the foundation for several projects in Karnataka

Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Monday inaugurated Shivamogga Airport and also laid the groundwork for several development projects in Shivamogga, Karnataka worth more than Rs 3,600 crore.

Built at a cost of around Rs. 450 crore, the new airport’s passenger terminal can handle 300 passengers per hour. It is expected to improve the connectivity and accessibility of Shivamogga and other neighboring areas in the Malnad region.

“The new airport will open Shivamogga’s doors to development,” said the Prime Minister, addressing the assembly during the opening ceremony.

PM Modi also laid the groundwork for two railway projects, the Shivamogga-Shikaripura-Ranebennur line and the Koteganguru Railway train depot. He also laid the groundwork for several road development projects worth more than Rs 215 crore.

“The development of Karnataka is in motion. This path of progress is paved with advances in roads, airways and iways (digital connectivity). The twin engine government of Karnataka powers the chariot of progress of Karnataka. In fact, the development of Shivamogga is the result of this thought process,” he said.

He also opened and laid the groundwork for more than Rs 950 crore multi-village programs under the Jal Jeevan Mission. He also presented 44 smart city projects worth Rs 895 crore in Shivamogga.

He highlighted the development of villages and Tier 2-3 cities in the state, as opposed to the metro-centric development of earlier times.

Later in the day he broke ground and inaugurated several development projects worth more than Rs 2,700 crore in Belagavi. He also released the 13th installment under PM KiSAN totaling approximately Rs 16,000 crore and laid the groundwork for six multi-village projects of Jal Jeevan Mission.

PM Modi also wished BS Yeddyurappa, who turned 80 on Monday, a happy birthday and paid tribute to his services to public life. PM Modi was on a one-day visit to the election-bound state.
