Poor Things star Willem Dafoe is heartbroken over skipping Venice Fest

Willem Dafoe is undoubtedly an actor. And the “Poor Things” star regrets not being able to attend his three films in Venice.

Yorgos Lanthimos’ new film Poor things was just awarded the Golden Lion at the 80th Venice Film Festival. The dark fairytale comedy beat out some pretty strong competitors this year, including Michael Mann’s FerrariDavid Fincher’s The killer and Bradley Coopers maestro. The response to the film has been overwhelming and they have done their best to prepare the audience for what is to come. Additionally, many consider this to be an Oscar-winning performance for star Emma Stone as she takes on the most ambitious role of her career.

Stone’s co-star Willem Dafoe didn’t just do that Poor thingsbut also Pet Shop Boys And Finally, Dawn who played at the festival. Since several films are screened at one of the most prestigious film events, it is certainly a shame not to be able to celebrate them. IndieWire reports that Dafoe spoke with Vanity Fair During this time. Dafoe expressed his feelings about having to be on the sidelines for this game. “Being in Venice with three films and not being able to go broke my heart. But then I thought, “Is it just because you want to have a good time?” I live in Italy and it’s exciting to meet friends, it’s exciting to dress up. “Does the film fly in real time or not?” It’s fun.”

Dafoe added: “It’s important that talent gets involved, especially in independent films – that’s important. That’s why I’m so grateful that we reached a tentative agreement [for Gonzo Girl at TIFF]. And of course the saying goes: If a small independent company can do it, why can’t a large studio do it too? But I’m sorry I couldn’t go to Venice.”

The Green Goblin actor would also give his impression of actors who have managed to make the festival rounds, even with disclaimers. “I think we have to keep going. I understand their strategy, but I also sometimes think that particularly die-hard industry people don’t think enough about the world, the global market. If we don’t participate in these film festivals, if we don’t participate in selling films abroad, before we know it we’ll all be watching German action films. Since we’re here with the blessing of SAG, I don’t know why someone wouldn’t come if they had a tentative agreement. I know a lot of people didn’t do that. I guess they would feel like it’s not a show of solidarity, but SAG supports it and it’s encouraging. So no, I didn’t feel weird.”
