A senior source in the royal household told Jobson: “They were both deeply disappointed in him. He had neither the right nor the authority to speak on her behalf.” The Queen thought that Harry, who was “so consumed” with love for Meghan, “clouded his judgement”. The Queen felt “abandoned” by Harry’s stepping down as senior royal and saw his and Meghan’s departure as a “missed opportunity”.

Jobson writes that Harry was on the phone regularly with the Queen. She hoped he had found “peace and happiness” but the monarch felt “disturbed” when Harry asked her to voice his grievances and told him to speak to Charles directly – even if, as Harry told Oprah, his father stopped answering his calls.
Queen Elizabeth was reportedly “surprised” after suggesting that Meghan turn to Sophie, Countess of Wessex – Prince Edward’s wife – for support.
