Race for Miami Beach mayor heads to runoff election – WSVN 7News | Miami News, Weather, Sports

MIAMI BEACH, FL. (WSVN) – The two leading candidates for mayor of Miami Beach will have to fight for a while longer as they face a runoff election.

The competition pits Commissioner Steven Meiner against former three-time Commissioner Michael Gongora.

None of the candidates broke the 50 + 1% threshold on Tuesday evening to avoid the runoff election on November 21st.

The pair advances to the next round, easily defeating former MTV executive Bill Roedy and former commissioner and state representative Michael Grieco.

Incumbent Mayor Dan Gelber was term-limited and could not run again.
