Race for Miami City Commissioners heads to runoff election – WSVN 7News | Miami News, Weather, Sports

MIAMI (WSVN) – It was election night across Miami-Dade County and the City of Miami Commissioner race is headed to a runoff election.
In District 1, incumbent Alex Diaz de la Portilla made it with 37% of the vote. This is despite his recent indictment on money laundering and bribery charges and his subsequent suspension by Governor DeSantis.
He faces businessman Miguel Gabela, who earned 29%.
Diaz de la Portilla has denied wrongdoing and vowed to fight the allegations.
If he wins, it’s possible DeSantis could suspend him again.
There were also other commission races in Miami, Hialeah and Homestead.
