Dave Grohl recently headlined in an unexpected place: Hope the mission‘s Trebek Center Shelter in Northridge, California for people affected by homelessness.

Grace Ancheta, the mission’s director of development, told Yahoo Entertainment that the Foo Fighters frontman and friends arrived on February 22 with their own barbecue smokers to personally prepare a feast for those in need of a hot meal.

“He provided the food and time and was caught cooking over 24 hours in the middle of a storm last week,” says Ancheta. “He did this when our Founder and CEO, Ken Craft, and President and CFO, Rowan Vansleve, walked 350 miles from Las Vegas to Los Angeles to raise the final $350,000 needed to open our three family homes become. Dave cooked over 450 dinners for several of our lodgings and stayed to serve all of our attendees at the Trebek Center.

Grohl and co. took turns smoking their meat overnight—apparently Grohl is serious about his barbecue—and serving their meal nearly a full day after entering the kitchen.

As Ankheta said Today.comthe rocker then graciously presented the food and posed for photos with the guests: “He didn’t want any fame for it, he said: ‘I just want to do this for you guys and give something back in this way.'”

He might not have wanted to, but the internet definitely took notice of his good deed. They called his actions “fantastic” and hailed him, noting it’s been a particularly rough year for him.

“We don’t deserve Dave Grohl,” summed up a tweeter.

And let’s just say there were a lot of references to the song “My Hero” by Foo.
