SDPD releases bodycam video of police shooting in Encanto

SAN DIEGO – San Diego police released Wednesday Bodycam video of a fatal police shooting in Encanto.
On Aug. 28 around 8:40 p.m., an SDPD officer attempted to rescue a wounded woman but was shot by her son, police said. Police have identified the suspect as Jesse Nelson, 43.
The officer tries to find out where Nelson is hiding while dozens of his colleagues arrive as backup.
“Due to the fact that the suspect killed a person and a dog and fired multiple shots at responding officers, assistance from the San Diego Police Department’s Special Weapons and Tactics Unit (SWAT) was requested,” police said.
The SWAT team tried to get the suspect to give up, but he refused.
The suspect then begins throwing items from the garage at the officers. An hour later, police said, he set the building on fire.
An officer eventually shot Nelson. Police said they recovered a rifle next to him. A handgun and a shotgun as well as other firearms and ammunition were also found in the home.
