Seasonal allergy symptoms appearing earlier due to warmer weather, local doctor says

Looking around, it feels like allergy season is already upon us.
“The biggest are itchy, watery eyes and nose. Some people with environmental allergies typically have these symptoms,” said Dr. Russell Traister from AHN.
Pollen on your car or in the air is usually a sign that allergy season is in full swing. But with the sunny days and mild winter, people get symptoms much earlier.
dr Traister said it probably wasn’t from outside allergens.
“In warmer weather, indoor humidity is a little higher, so people who are allergic to things indoors like dust or mold have increased symptoms,” Traister said.
Additionally, Traister said that drastic weather changes from hot to cold like the ones we’ve seen over the past few weeks can affect people’s nervous systems.
“It can trick them into thinking their allergies are occurring when in fact it’s just the nerves in their nose exaggerating and telling their nose to just run because of the temperature changes,” Traister said.
If you notice an increase in symptoms from allergens, the doctor recommends putting allergen covers on your bed and pillows.
