A week after her disappearance, an extensive search for a missing Co Antrim woman continues.

A second man, 34, has since been arrested in the Ballymena area.

Police are conducting a criminal investigation into the disappearance of 21-year-old Ballymena resident Chloe Mitchell.

Gillian Kearney, Mid and East Antrim District Commander, PSNI Superintendent, said: “Police are increasingly concerned for Chloe’s safety and we have opened a criminal investigation into her disappearance.”

“It is totally out of character for her to be disconnected from her family, who are being supported by professionals at this worrying time.

“I urge anyone who was passing through the James Street area of ​​Ballymena between 10pm Friday 2 June and 5.40pm Thursday 8 June to consider whether they saw Chloe or anything unusual.

“I would also like to urge anyone who has dash cam footage during this period to take it to the police.”

A 26-year-old man was arrested in connection with the case in Lurgan, Co Armagh on Thursday. He remains in police custody as of Saturday afternoon and police have now been given a further 36 hours to question him.

Ms Mitchell was last seen on CCTV in the early hours of June 3 in Ballymena town centre.

Several of the searches focused on the Braid River area of ​​the town of Co Antrim.

The Community Search and Rescue Organization supported the police in the operation.

On Friday, Superintendent Kearney said police were treating Ms Mitchell as a “high-risk missing person”.

Ms Mitchell’s brother Phillip has urged anyone with information to contact the family.

Asked by the BBC on Friday how much he misses his sister, he said: “Words just can’t describe it, I’m broke.”

Ms Mitchell was last seen by her family on Friday 2 June and was then filmed on CCTV in the late hours of that day and the early hours of Saturday 3 June in Ballymena town centre.
