Second man arrested for the murder of Patrick “Pappy” Lyons in north Dublin

The second man arrested, in his 50s, is being held at a Garda station in north Dublin.
Father-of-two Patrick “Pappy” Lyons was shot five times while walking down Belclare Terrace in Ballymun on February 11, 2021.
The second man arrested, who is in his 50s, is being held at a Garda station in north Dublin, according to the Garda Press Office.
It follows the arrest of a man in his 40s who, according to Sunday World, is a high-ranking figure in gang crime.
The suspect, 40, who was previously a central figure in the pack led by murdered criminal Eamon “The Don” Dunne, was arrested yesterday morning.
A Garda spokesman said: “Gardaí has arrested a man in his 50s in connection with a fatal shooting on 11 February 2021 at Belcare Terrace in Ballymun, Dublin.”
“He is currently being held in a North Dublin Garda Station under Section 50 of the Criminal Justice Act 2007.
“This is the second arrest in the investigation. The second man remains in Garda custody at this time.”
“Pappy” Lyons grew up not far from where he was shot and locals previously told Sunday World that although he has his problems, they were shocked to learn of his murder.
He was often seen playing football in the street with his young son, and the neighbors were saddened by his death.
“He’s had his problems in the past, but you didn’t think he would end up being shot,” a neighbor said at the time.
The shooting also became the focus of the Garda Ombudsman’s investigation after it was claimed several officers knew of a threat but the information had not been shared.
The investigation into the murder continues.
The man arrested yesterday is a known criminal operating in North Dublin.
The criminal, who has been involved in cash-in-transit robberies, has been involved in a number of gang disputes over the years, including with his former partners in crime.
He has a previous conviction for a firearms-related offense and has served a significant prison sentence for organized crime.
He is also currently suspected of being involved in drug trafficking in the Finglas and Ballymun areas.
