Crimecall will return for its 20th season on RTÉ One next Monday, with presenter Carla O’Brien taking over.

Sharon Ní Bheoláin stepped down after five years, saying it had been a “privilege” to host the show and it was time to “move on”.

“Crimecall is a valued part of public broadcasting and it was nothing short of a privilege to host the show for five and a half years. Unfortunately it is time for me to move on, but not before I express my sincere thanks to the dedicated Crimecall team, the studio team and An Garda Síochána, who all made my job look easy,” said Ms Ní Bheoláin .

“In particular, I would like to pay tribute to the many courageous contributors to the program: victims of crime, their families and relatives of missing persons, who spoke to me so movingly, often in the deepest situations of grief.”

“It is a great pleasure for me to now hand over the baton to my super talented friend and colleague Carla O’Brien.

“I know she will do a great job. I know our loyal viewers will continue to tune in in large numbers and help gardaí wherever they can with their crime calls.”

“I look forward to working with An Garda Síochána, the production team and, most importantly, the viewers who make the program possible.”

As the show kicks off next week, the family of Dubliner Martin Lynn are speaking out about his death and hoping the public can help gardaí with their investigation.

The show also explores the 37-year-old mystery of a body that washed up on the Leitrim coast in 1986.

Gardaí are speaking to anyone who could recognize the details of the body’s distinctive tattoos.

Crimecall will also hear from a man rebuilding his life after escaping forced labor in rural Ireland.

Crimecall airs on Monday September 25 at 9.35pm on RTÉ One
