Sheriff shreds ‘stupid’ rapper arrested for murder after making song about it

A “self-proclaimed” Florida rapper is charged murder After detectives linked him to a murder using his own lyrics and music video, Polk County Sheriff Grady Judd said Thursday while impaling the “stupid” singer at a news conference.
La’Darion Chandler, 19, began “crying like a baby who lost his pacifier” when he was slapped with murder charges in the December killing of rival gang member John McGhee, 33, Judd said.
At Thursday’s press conference, the sheriff repeatedly accused Chandler, known as “Bang Bang,” of not only making a song that allegedly concerned himself, but also his flaws as an artist and his decision to shoot McGhee, as he ran away.
“He’s not a big rapper. My rapper expert says he doesn’t sing well. He doesn’t move well. He’s just a terrible rapper,” Judd said. “But he’s a dumb rapper. Not only does he make a rap video about shooting someone, but he also admits to shooting the guy in the back. “I’m a cowardly rapper, that’s me. If you don’t believe me, watch me shoot that guy in the back.’”
Judd said his “rapper expert” is a detective who loves rap music. This detective told him that Chandler “is one of the worst rappers he’s ever heard in his entire life,” Judd explained.

When he was charged with first-degree murder this week, Chandler was already in custody in Lakeland, Fla., about halfway between Tampa and Orlando, on a separate nonfatal shooting, according to Judd.
The prosecution ends a months-long investigation complicated by McGhee, who refused to name his shooter while he was being treated in hospital because he ended up seeking revenge himself.
“He wanted to take care of it himself,” Judd said. “He didn’t want this gang member locked up because if he was locked up, he couldn’t get to him.”
About a month after his hospitalization, McGhee died on Jan. 9 after refusing to take medication — despite doctors and deputies urging him to do it — to get better, Judd said. The sheriff added that McGhee would repeatedly lie to detectives or not answer their questions at all.
“He killed the person who shot him,” Judd said.
Judd said detectives believe the shooting occurred on Dec. 17 after “mean mugging” and “evil eyes” turned violent from the rival gang members and Chandler opened fire on McGhee as he ran away.
The sheriff called the ordeal the result of “testosterone overload,” before playing a portion of Chandler’s song, which included, “I tried to run, I hit him on the back, even though I’m shooting like a Mac.”

Judd said Chandler was “a mess” even before his most recent arrest, as the 19-year-old had seven prior arrests for felonies, including fleeing, grand larceny and vehicle theft. His first arrest came when he was just 11 years old.
Chandler has been in prison three times: his first sentence was one month, his second two months, and most recently he spent a year behind bars before being released late last year, just weeks before he allegedly shot McGhee, Judd said.
The sheriff said Chandler is not allowed to own a gun because of his previous convictions, but he has frequently posed with guns in photos posted to social media.
The murder weapon used in McGhee’s shooting has not been found, but Judd promised a $5,000 payout to anyone who turned it over to the deputies.
Judd said Chandler shot another man earlier this year, but the victim survived. Chandler was arrested in the shooting and charged with first-degree murder this week in the murder of McGhee.
“Look at this boy, he’s 19, he’s going to prison for the rest of his life,” Judd said. “I want everything from you Cool Guys, thinking about it while you’re watching your gangster rap looking for a stolen gun…this guy thought he was going to be you — or you’re going to be him.”
