A woman who drank a cocktail of cocaine, painkillers and benzodiazepines when her car was involved in an accident outside Craigavon Courthouse and left the car on its side in a roundabout was today fined £900 imposed.
When Sinead Mary McAvoy appeared in court, she was also given a 12-month driving ban, and District Judge Bernie Kelly warned the 38-year-old could face 14 days in prison if she didn’t pay the fines within 20 weeks.

At a previous hearing, McAvoy of Beech Court in Lurgan pleaded guilty to four felonies, including dangerous driving, driving while unfit, driving without insurance and resisting a police officer, all committed on April 4 last year.
A prosecutor told the court that just before 9pm that evening, police received an emergency call about a traffic accident involving a single vehicle at the roundabout between the Craigavon Courthouse and Rushmere Shopping Center.
The caller reported that he had to “slam on the brakes to avoid a collision” when he saw the McAvoy’s car approaching the roundabout at high speed.
Their car “failed to clear the roundabout” and instead ended up on its side, with both McAvoy and her male passenger trapped inside, and NIFRS had to extricate the couple, who suffered minor injuries.

He refused to testify, and the court said when McAvoy was cautioned and charged, “she seemed to find it quite funny.”
The PS attorney told the court that a forensic examination of McAvoy’s urine sample found cocaine, morphine, codeine, diazepam, temazepam and oxycontin, all of which “had the potential to impair driving ability.”
When questioned about the findings, McAvoy declined to answer police questions, and defense attorney David McKeown acknowledged that she was “unfortunate” to have seen the crime scene images on social media, “is very fortunate.” to have escaped with minor injuries”.
DJ Kelly issued the fines and driving ban, reminding McAvoy that she would remain disqualified “until she passed the appropriate driving test.”
