“Sound of Freedom” director plans next film “Cabrini” for March

Alejandro Monteverde, the director of the surprise 2023 box-office hit Sound of Freedom, has his next film, Cabrini, slated for a March 8, 2024 release.

Cabrini, from Sound of Freedom indie distributor Angel Studios, tells the story of Francesca Cabrini, an Italian-American nun who founded the Missionary Sisters of the Sacred Heart of Jesus and is the first US citizen of the Missionary Sisters of the Sacred Heart of Jesus was canonized Catholic Church. According to the film’s press release, Cabrini “fought against the establishment and became the greatest social entrepreneur of the 19th century.”

“Through her willpower, courage, compassion and business savvy, she overcame sexism and violent anti-Italian bigotry while fighting an establishment that wanted to hold her back,” the press release reads.

Cristiana Dell’Anna plays Cabrini, while John Lithgow, David Morse, Giancarol Giannini and Federico Castelluccio round out the cast.

“Francesca Cabrini is one of the most inspirational and influential figures in modern history, and yet few know her story. Faced with seemingly insurmountable obstacles in life, Cabrini instead focused on how she could change the status quo of her time, and her impact on the world is still being felt today,” said Liz Ellis, Chief Operating Officer of Angel Studios. “We are very excited to bring her incredible story to theaters this spring. This will be our second collaboration with Sound of Freedom director Alejandro Monteverde – and the Angel Guild rated this film even better than Sound of Freedom. Monteverde’s latest film, the child trafficking thriller “Sound of Freedom,” starring Jim Caviezel, grossed nearly $20 million in the United States and Canada and has since grossed nearly $182 million at the domestic box office.
