Squad’s $6,250 solar-electric city car is hitting the US market, and you might be surprised at what fits inside
SQUAD Mobility has announced that its all-electric city car will be available in the United States with a starting price of $6,250.
The miniature motor will be presented at the Consumer Electronics Show in January as the world’s first solar-powered city vehicle.
This solar power is generated by the solar panel on the car’s roof, which generates an electric range of 31.2 km on a sunny day.
While Squad’s vehicle is limited in size, it offers a dashboard with space for a laptop, a folding passenger seat, and a small trunk.
Inside the solar electric city car are two 2kW rear motors driving four 1.6kWh battery packs that are easily swappable. electr reports.
With all four battery packs charged, the model has a range of 62 miles.
Squad Mobility’s decision to make its vehicle’s battery packs interchangeable opens the door to urban markets with battery swapping stations.
Battery stations store a type of universal battery designed to be shared by several different vehicles, such as: B. the electric solar city car.
Most electric car batteries are single-purpose, which means they cannot be used in multiple vehicle types.
Honda has already opened one of these stations in Tokyo, Japan, where subscribers can scan tracking tags to receive battery packs for their scooters.
These replaceable battery packs are known as Honda MPP (Mobile Power Pack) e: and have a capacity of 1314 Wh.
Squad Mobility co-founder Robert Hoevers said: “We are seeing tremendous interest [in our car] from the USA, specifically for markets such as sharing platforms, gated communities, campuses, (lake) resorts, tourism, corporate premises, hotels & resorts, amusement parks and inner-city services.”
Hoevers added that Squad would use the January debut of its solar vehicle at the Consumer Electronics Show to find US partners to develop battery stations in the community.
