The footage shows a cyclist pulling out to overtake another cyclist in front of him.

Seconds later, the taxi driver’s wing mirror hit his back as the professional driver attempted to overtake at a pinch point.

The rider agreed road.cc and said: “The wing mirror hit me as the taxi squeezed into the traffic island. At this point, I overtook another cyclist, so there was hardly any room to dodge.

“I’ve been cycling for 35 years or more, many of them around London, and have had all kinds of experiences – but this was one of the scariest I’ve ever had.

“As a taxi driver, he knew full well that there was a two-lane road immediately after this intersection.

“Unusually, I emailed the City of London Police a few weeks later to ask about the status as – as usual – I hadn’t even received confirmation of the report.

The taxi driver accused the driver of dodging in front of him.

The driver added: “He also accused me of swerving in front of him – which was utter nonsense – I was rolling towards the red light as it changed.

“The cyclist in front fell sideways and I picked up speed to pass the line of slower cyclists but didn’t change road position at all, as clearly seen in the rear footage.

“After I got through the chicane and away from other cyclists, I switched to the bike lane and waved him on because I didn’t want him to be behind me and not have another argument with him.

Social media users are divided.

One said: “Here it is clear that the cyclist is turning right to overtake the other cyclist without shoulder control. It is his fault. The taxi could have done without it, but the cyclist put himself in danger.”

Another said: “The taxi driver made a ridiculously close pass and in this instance actually hit the cyclist. Of course he has something to answer for.

“There was no way the taxi driver should have tried to get past the other cyclists, even if the camera operator wasn’t there. Terrible, unacceptable driving and he deserves the penalty.”

Another sleepy rider was caught speeding down a bike line as riders struggled to stay out of the way.
