The Blob (1988) vs The Thing (1982) Face-Off

As much as people complain today about Hollywood rebooting their favorite movies, it was all the rage in the 80’s! And it actually improved some old movies with cool concepts. In 1982, director John Carpenter took a famous Howard Hawks creature film and turned it into a paranoia-inducing, psychological monster film with some of the best special effects to survive to this day the thing with Kurt Russel. The titular thing is capable of duplicating any living organism to give itself the best chance of taking over. Every single cell of this creature is dangerous. It could be any of us. Yes, even you!
In 1988, Chuck Russell and Frank Darabont reintroduced the ultimate eating machine. No, not pine! He brought back the gelatinous power of the blob. It doesn’t matter how strong you are, how tough you are, or how awesome your mullet is, if you get the blob on you… you’re dead. This tiny ball of snot can transform into a giant bouncing house of death very quickly. If these two species met each other, who would emerge victorious? This could be a case of an unstoppable force meeting an immovable object, but let’s find out! It’s a Monster Mash here on…FACE OFF!
This episode of face off was written by Bryan Wolford, narrated by Shawn Knippelberg and edited by Ric Solomon. But let’s not have the last word – tell us in the comments which monster movie is your choice – The Blob or The Thing?
