The distribution of compensation to those affected begins in Joshimath

The Uttarakhand government has begun distributing compensation to affected homeowners in land-subsidy-hit Joshimath as part of the state’s reclamation policy, an official statement said.

The trial began on Friday under the direction of Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami, with three Joshimath residents receiving 63.20 lakh in compensation on the first day.

Beneficiaries included retired Subedar Major Manglu Lal, Krishna Panwar and Baldev Singh Panwar, residents of one of Joshimath’s worst-hit Suneel districts, sources said.
