The first-ever South Street Smorgasbord event taking place this fall – NBC10 Philadelphia
South Street is home to dozens of restaurants and bars, and now a new event aims to highlight everything this popular Philadelphia street has to offer.
South Street Main House District announced that they are putting a new twist on the classic Restaurant Week and hosting it for the first time South Street Smorgasbord this autumn.
South Street Smorgasbord is part of the ongoing series of events called Meet me on South Street.
From September 24th to October 1st, foodies can try a little bit of everything at the various shops and restaurants around the South Street Headhouse District.
This “more than just a restaurant week” features a variety of international dishes, home cooking from neighborhood favorites, snacks, desserts and other offerings.
“We wanted to make Restaurant Week options a little different to capture your interest and allow people to take a risk and try new things on South Street,” said Katrina Johnston-Zimmerman, assistant director of the South Street Headhouse.
Available South Street Smorgasbord offerings include:
- $40-45 prix fixe or dinner special
- $20 dinner or lunch special
- Snacks for $10 and under in the South
This event is aimed at people who just want a quick bite to eat or want to have dinner while strolling around the area.
“We really just want to put one foot on the street and show people firsthand what South Street really is,” Johnston-Zimmerman said.
Participating restaurants include Brauhaus Schmitz, Bridget Foy’s, Tattooed Mom and Federal Donuts.
New restaurants like Wim Cafe, South Flavors, Bon Kif Grill and Mahalo Hawaiian BBQ are also offering specials.
Many of the restaurants participating in this event do not require reservations. The South Street Headhouse District will announce the full list of restaurants at a later date.
