The rise of connected cars brings living room-quality broadband into your vehicle

WIRELESS technology company Qualcomm has unveiled a “digital chassis” that aims to bring home-quality broadband internet to your car.

The platform, dubbed Snapdragon, enables car manufacturers and developers to continuously provide drivers with new apps and services through remote updates.

These apps and services include 5G, advanced location tracking, Wi-Fi, cloud access, and communicating with a vehicle’s environment.

Snapdragon quickly recognizes each occupant and adjusts vehicle settings based on that passenger’s preferences Manufacturer.

This can be anything from seat position and interior temperature to recently used apps and media content on individual seat screens.

Personal preferences can be customized through Snapdragon’s natural voice control and understanding, the company said.

This voice control is critical to Snapdragon’s ability to swap out hand-triggered dashboard buttons for a simpler, more accessible user interface.

All passengers have Snapdragon’s virtual voice assistant tuned to their specific audio zone.

This special audio zone also accommodates a passenger’s individual taste in music.

Drivers can also customize their audio zone with active noise and echo cancellation and engine noise cancellation.

When you’re on a call, these audio zones reduce noise from other areas of the vehicle.

This digital chassis also features facial recognition, making it easier for passengers to download new software updates or pay for transportation services such as parking.

Snapdragon’s enhanced audio and face recognition is complemented by real-time three-dimensional mapping and positioning services.

Three-dimensional mapping and positioning make travel safer and more convenient with highly detailed spatial visualization.

This navigation also sets the stage for a technologically safer transition to autonomous driving.

Snapdragon offers 50 percent more computing power and 40 percent more energy efficiency than its previous generation.

The services of this digital chassis are made possible by an advanced modem.

The modem supports up to 200MHz network capacity to verify cars stay connected with low latency signals. PC Mag reports.
