It was another interesting day in Washington, as House Republicans tried again to nominate a new House Speaker, failing again, and late night hosts are keeping a close eye on the situation.
The latest House Republican candidate for speaker Tuesday morning was Minnesota Rep. Tom Emmer. But it just It took a few hours before his chances quickly dwindled Concluding that there would not be enough votes, he withdrew from consideration.
And although his time as a possible new announcer was short-lived, he provided enough material for all the major late-night shows to delve into his story.
Emmer’s rollercoaster day
At The Late Show with Stephen Colbert, the host touched on some of the key points of Emmer’s House resume, including his role as House Majority Leader and his membership on the Financial Services Committee. He also noted that Emmer committed two drunken driving violations and then sponsored legislation to lessen penalties for drunk drivers.
