It follows an operation carried out by Castleblayney gardaí, assisted by members of the Armed Support Unit, who searched a building in Castleblayney, Co Monaghan yesterday.

Officers discovered suspected cannabis worth around €70,000 at the premises, which led to a further search in Dromiskin, Co. Louth, where suspected cannabis worth around €80,000 was seized.

Gardaí said the suspected drugs would now be sent to Forensic Science Ireland (FSI) for analysis.

“Two men were arrested and detained at Garda stations in Monaghan under the Misuse of Drugs Act 1977,” Gardai added.

“Both have been charged with appearing before Monaghan District Court on Wednesday, October 25 at 10.30am. The investigation is ongoing.”

Gardai also added that the seizure was part of Operation Tara, the expanded national anti-drugs strategy launched in July 2021 by Garda Commissioner Drew Harris.

The focus of Operation Tara is to disrupt, dismantle and prosecute drug trafficking networks at all levels – international, national, local – involved in the importation, distribution, cultivation, production, local sales and supply of controlled drugs.
