Two people die in house fire in Ballyjamesduff, Cavan

Their bodies were taken to a local hospital where an autopsy will be conducted.
A man and a woman have died in a house fire in Cavan in the early hours of Sunday morning.
Emergency services rushed to the scene after the fire broke out at a house in Ballyjamesduff just before 2am.
A woman in her 80s and a man in his 50s were pronounced dead at the scene.
The scene of the fire is currently cordoned off pending a technical investigation.
A Garda spokesman said: “Gardaí were alerted to a fire at a residential building in Ballyjamesduff, Co. Cavan, shortly before 2am on Sunday morning, September 10, 2023.”
The fire department was on site and extinguished the fire in the early hours of the morning.
The bodies of the deceased have been taken to Cavan General Hospital Mortuary where a post mortem will take place in due course.
The crime scene is currently being retained for a technical examination by the Garda Technical Bureau while the coroner has been informed of the two deaths.
“Investigations into the circumstances surrounding the fire are ongoing,” a Garda spokesman confirmed.
