Tyler Flach, the man convicted of murdering 16-year-old Khaseen Morris because the victim brought a girl home from a party, may face the rest of his life in prison.
“Khaseen Morris was intelligent, kind, and had a smile that could light up a room,” Anne T. Donnelly, District Attorney of Nassau County (New York). called. “The young man was only 16 and had recently transferred to a new high school where he made friends. The defendant, angry that Morris had brought a girl home, organized a group and went to a local mall with the intention of attacking Morris.”
The girl was another teenager’s ex-girlfriend. was flat described was involved as the ex-boyfriend’s “collaborator” and was the girl’s ex-boyfriend one of the two 16-year-old boys arrested in the incident.
Flach was sentenced to 25 years of life imprisonment on Tuesday.
According to prosecutors, Flach — now 22 but 18 at the time — and his group got out of his vehicle and attacked Morris and several of the victim’s friends during an after-school argument outside a mall. He stabbed Morris in the heart and broke the arm of another teenager, authorities said. Doctors at Mount Sinai South Nassau tried to save Khaseen but to no avail.
“Tyler Flach stabbed Morris in the chest and took the young man’s life,” the prosecutor said.
Morris, a newcomer to Oceanside High School, had only been there 10 days.
Flach was convicted in a trial last year of second-degree murder, first-degree gang robbery, third-degree assault and fourth-degree criminal weapons possession. The defense claimed he did not mean to kill Morris. The jury, given the option to walk on a lesser charge of manslaughter, sided with the state.
“This was an incredibly senseless murder, and I thank our prosecutors, Nassau County Police Department investigators, and the jury who participated in this trial for their careful review of the evidence,” the prosecutor said. “We remain with Khaseen’s family, friends and community as they mourn his tragic loss.”
