UFC 293 news, Sean Strickland beats UFC fan in Bondi Sydney Israel Adesanya latest update

Sometime Sunday morning, Sean Strickland punched a UFC fan on the streets of Bondi Junction.

“Boom, straight to the gut,” he says.

“I had only been in Australia a day and had already committed an attack.”

Don’t be afraid of it either.

“At first I thought the guy was going to come here for a picture,” continues the man, who was raised a white supremacist who believes women belong in kitchens and has been open on more than one occasion about wanting to kill someone — too inside the cage or out.

Oh yes, Strickland is also the man who will be headlining UFC 293 this Sunday in Sydney.

The first fight under a new $16 million contract with the state government sees him taking on one of the current and arguably greatest fighters of all time – UFC middleweight champion Israel Adesanya at the Qudos Bank Arena.

Adesanya is not only among the most dangerous fighters in the world, but also boasts a growing fan base that totals 8.3 million on Instagram alone.

One of them approached Strickland on Bondi Street last Saturday and said: “Izzy is getting on with you.”

So Strickland hit him without hesitation.

“Because anybody who wants a picture, man, I love the fans,” he told Fox Sports Australia on Tuesday.

“But if you want to come to me and lead your damn mouth, I’ll hit you like I want to hit anyone else.”

Which he did

“Upper cut to the belly,” he grins.

“Then I left. But if I see that guy again, man, no problem… I’ll thank him for not filing a complaint.”

All of which goes some way to explaining why Strickland was not invited to Tuesday morning’s first public event of fight week – a “Welcome to Country” ceremony at Barangaroo Reserve.

And why, according to Adesanya, UFC executives were concerned about having him flown all the way down under to an event heavily funded by the New South Wales government.

Anyway, the big guy is here.

And days after his fight, he’s already on the ground.

That’s at least a slightly different twist than The Great Boomerang Incident of 2017, isn’t it?

Back then, ahead of another UFC event in Sydney, American fighter Colby Covington was attacked on George Street by Brazilian heavyweight Fabricio Werdum – who, of all things, hit him in the head with a souvenir boomerang.

“And Colby Covington deserves it,” Strickland shrugged.

“Colby’s one of those C…s Who, he’s fake.

“Everything about him is this fictional character that he created to make money.

“And look, we all do it. There’s an element of WWE in combat.

“But Colby’s a soulless, spineless man who’d fucking sell his ass if it made a dollar off of it.

“Everything he says is cheating.

“Like the time he attacked Jorge Masvidal’s family, attacked them… and then when Jorge comes and fucks you, you file a complaint.

“You are the epitome of a weak man, Colby.

“And you are a definition of the weak society we will have.”

But as for Adesanya?

“Izzy is authentic,” said Strickland. “He paints his nails and is very authentic in who he is.

“He’s just another guy with a lot of money trying to be a superstar.

“He gives no joke… about me, no joke… about you, no joke… about the world.

“I was at the airport once and I took a picture with a guy and he thanked me. He said, “Man, I did the same thing to Izzy and he was such a looker.” Hole, he didn’t even want to shake my hand.

“People care about the perception we radiate.

“And the perception Izzy gives is that he’s a superstar.

“He’s stuck.

“I’ve heard people say it within the (UFC) organization, outside of the organization as well.

“People like me because I’m authentic.

“I don’t wear a pearl necklace. I don’t drive a BMW.

“I don’t wear designer clothes.

“People like me because I represent them.

“People don’t like Izzy because he thinks he’s better than everyone else – the way he dresses, the way he talks, the way he acts.

“If there’s one thing Izzy could learn from me, it would be to get off your high horse and people will like you a little bit more.”

Adesanya will tell you that he is authentic.

“And I think he’s authentic,” says Strickland.

“He just sucks, man.”

Nevertheless, the champion has his fans. As we proved on this Bondi Street last Saturday.

“And we now live in a world where so many people are speaking their words online, they are speaking their words in person, with absolutely no consequences,” Strickland said.

“But in America we had this President Andrew Jackson, he got a little angry because he was a questionable President, but I fucking love the guy.

“Someone once suggested that the man’s wife was a whore. I only hinted at it.

“He dueled him to the death.”
