Uttarakhand Assembly Budget Session begins to shouts from opposition members
The budget session of the Uttarakhand Assembly began Monday in the summer capital of Gairsain with the address of Lt. Gen. (retd) Gurmit Singh amid slogans from opposition members.
Members of Congress crowded into the House fountain as the governor began his address, raising their demand for a CBI investigation into the alleged recruiting fraud.
However, the governor continued his address, in which he highlighted the achievements of the government, particularly the steps taken to empower women and promote minority education and skills development.
The governor quoted the state’s Medhavi Balika Protsahan Yojana as saying that deserving female students from the minority communities will be given a maximum Rs 25,000 scholarship to reduce their dropout rate.
Under the Mukhya Mantri Hunar Yojana, the capacity development of minority communities will be re-emphasized, he added.
Social measures such as increasing pensions for the elderly, widows and the physically disabled, creating better infrastructure for tourists and devotees around ancient temples, creating water bodies under the Amrit Sarovar Yojana, and a renewed emphasis on research and development in educational institutions were the other steps specified by the Governor.
