Weather in Ireland: Warning for thunderstorms and local flooding from Met Éireann

A yellow status weather warning has been issued for six counties.

Carlow, Dublin, Kildare, Meath, Wexford and Wicklow were told to expect heavy showers with scattered thunderstorms and possible hail.

There is also the possibility of spot flooding and hazardous driving conditions.

Extensive showers are expected this morning and will continue throughout the day.

They will be strongest in the eastern half of the country, with the possibility of localized flooding.

This afternoon it will be more sunny and dry in the north-west, but frequent rains will remain in place elsewhere.

Thunderstorms are possible in both the east and southeast, Met Éireann forecasts.

Showers are expected to gradually become more isolated by late evening, with light winds in the north and east and moderate to fresh north-west winds elsewhere.

Temperatures are expected to range between 13°C and 16°C.

Any remaining scattered showers will subside early tonight leaving the rest of the night dry.

Light northerly or shifting breezes are expected to bring patches of fog overnight with temperatures dropping to 5°C to 8°C.

Friday will be mostly dry with many sunny spells. Light showers are possible in the afternoon and early evening.

Temperatures will peak at 19°C, with many areas dropping to as low as 15°C.

Friday night will remain dry, but areas of fog and mist are expected to develop with near-calm conditions.

Temperatures will drop to 5 to 8 °C overnight on Friday.
