What is Roblox?

Roblox is a virtual space where you can play and chat with others.

It has been compared to the hit game Fortnite, although there are some key differences.

In addition to the social creative mode, Fortnite includes dedicated game elements with its popular Battle Royale and Save the World modes.

While Roblox doesn’t have a specific game per se.

Roblox is more of an “experience” and while you can play games in it, everything is created by the users themselves.

Many see it as an early version of the metaverse.

How does Roblox work?

Referred to as “The Imagination Platform” by the developers, Roblox essentially offers a service that allows users to develop their own games, play other people’s games, and explore user-made content.

It’s basically a place where you can meet up with friends, explore virtual rooms, and play a huge variety of games and content.

And if you feel like it, you can try creating your own content or collaborate with others to bring your vision to life.

Is Roblox safe for children?

As with anything online, parents need to become familiar with how to keep their children safe, and the first thing to realize is that Roblox is not an age-appropriate game; It’s an online social space.

You wouldn’t leave your kids running around in the real world unsupervised (I hope!) or without teaching them how to be safe and mindful of their surroundings – and that applies here too.

As a parent, you have a responsibility to protect your child online, be it on social media, online games or online social spaces.

Other than that, Roblox isn’t the Wild West. The developers have taken steps to ensure children are as safe as possible as detailed Roblox website.

There is also a dedicated section for parents that breaks Roblox down to the basics.

Some of the tools Roblox uses to keep users safe include avatar clothing detection to ensure everyone is wearing “appropriate clothing”.

Chat filters — which use a combination of software and human moderators — ensure inappropriate content is blocked.

As an extra precaution, for users 12 years and under, all posts they create and chats they participate in are filtered for inappropriate content and personally identifiable information.

There is also a system for blocking and reporting abuse. This can be used anywhere on the platform – including apps and games.

There are instructions on how to block and report abuse on the Roblox website.

You can also take a more practical approach with the customizable parental controls.

These give you the ability to restrict or disable online chat, as well as restrict access to age-appropriate games.

And if you want to keep an even closer eye on what’s going on as your kids run around Roblox, you can Monitor account activity.

It is also recommended to learn about the parental guidance for the Talent Hub if your kids are interested in the more creative side of Roblox.
