zendaya is now reportedly one of the highest paid people on television after signing a new deal with HBO.

puck reports that Zendaya has reportedly struck a deal with HBO to receive approximately $1 million per episode of euphoria. that puts them in company like Michael Keaton (Intoxicated), Jason Sudeikis (Teddy Lasso), Elisabeth Moss (Luminous girls), Harrison Ford and Helen Mirren (1923) and Chris Pratt (The terminal list). This also moves closer to the reach of John Krasinski’s per-episode payout, which is $2 million for each episode of Jack Ryan.

While Zendaya dominates cable TV, Angela Bassett rules over broadcast television. Bassett became the highest paid woman of color on television, earning over $450,000 for an episode as of 2021 9-1-1 And 9-1-1: Lone Star.

Last February, Zendaya spoken with Shadow and Act Managing Editor Trey Mangum on what it’s like to portray her euphoric character, Rue, who is still fighting herself amid addiction.

“There’s a certain volatility that Rue has and an unpredictability in her pain because she’s also going through withdrawal at the same time,” she said. “So that adds a whole different element, not just physical pain, but fear of the physical pain that she’s going to come in contact with.” [It’s also] just a complete dissolution of mind, body, spirit, everything. All the pain comes to a head. And I think that’s really at the root of it all, is a deep pain and a deep sadness for who she is and who she’s become.

“She’s kind of lost control of herself and her life and it shows,” she continued. “She will have moments of regret and then immediately moments of violence [and] Anger… and then moments of sadness. It’s just everywhere, which I think is deeply true for someone experiencing so much of it at once. And it’s important to remember that she’s in the midst of dealing with the addiction.”
