Zero Day is Robert De Niro’s first foray into television

The acting legend with a culturally-rooted film career is now venturing into streaming series territory with a new project.

The legends really adapt to modern times. Netflix just announced that Robert De Niro will star in a limited series (his first-ever TV series) for the streaming platform, which he also named as Executive Producer zero day. The series will be directed by Lesli Linka and will also serve as executive producer smoother. The show comes from creators and executive producers – Pulitzer Prize winner Michael S. Schmidt, Eric Newman of Grand Electric Productions and Noah Oppenheim.

Netflix’s official logline reads:
“Zero day asks the question on everyone’s mind – how do we find the truth in a world in crisis, seemingly being torn apart by forces beyond our control? And in an age of conspiracy theories and subterfuges, how many of these forces are products of our own doing, perhaps even our own imagination?”

The drama will be a six-episode limited series. EP Eric Newman expresses excitement at working with De Niro on this project, “I’m a lifelong fan of Robert De Niro. To have him as a production partner and star on this show is beyond my wildest dreams. And Lesli Linka Glatter has directed so many of my favorite TV episodes; She was our clear first choice to headline this show. I am grateful to Netflix for their continued trust and support and I am excited to be in business with the amazing creative team of Noah, Lesli and Jonathan on this timely (and terrifying) series.”

Noah Oppenheim had paid tribute to Pulitzer Prize-winning journalist Michael S. Schmidt and “the stories that kept him up at night” for inspiration and additions, “Seeing this twisted reality thriller come to life starring the legendary Robert De Niro is more than we could have hoped for.”

Jonathan Glickman from Wednesday will also serve as executive producer.
